In a significant drug bust, the Hyderabad Special Operations Team (SOT) and local police arrested five drug peddlers on charges of smuggling marijuana from Visakhapatnam to Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai. The operation took place on Tuesday at Rajendranagar.
The police seized 254 kg of marijuana worth Rs 88.90 lakh, a country-made firearm, 11 live rounds, and other assets, totaling around Rs 1.04 crore. The arrested individuals are identified as Thakur Sachin Singh, the primary drug peddler from Uttar Pradesh, along with Mohd Nadeem, Mohd Saqlain, Mohd Saleem from Mumbai, and Prashanth Singh from Uttar Pradesh.
According to the police, Sachin Singh coordinated with Mumbai-based peddlers Nadeem, Saqlain, and Saleem to transport 254 kg of marijuana. The group traveled from Vijayawada to Araku Valley and purchased the drugs on September 8. Their plan was to deliver 150 kg of the drugs to Amit Singh in Pratapghar, UP, and the remaining 100 kg to the Mumbai peddlers. On September 10, they were intercepted at a service road near Rajendranagar.
During the police operation, two suspects, Vinod Kumar Yadav and Ravinder Yadav, fled the scene. Authorities successfully seized the drugs, a firearm, and two vehicles involved in the operation.
