Hyderabad Police Arrest 3 Men in ‘Digital Arrest’ Scam

Gang Extorted Money from Victims, Including Hyderabad Resident

by Ananya Mehta

Hyderabad’s Cyber Crime Police recently arrested three men involved in a scam known as the ‘digital arrest’ scheme. The accused—Thota Srinivasa Rao, Lam Jeevankumar, and Tammishetty Raghuveer—are all residents of Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. They were allegedly running a fraudulent operation to extort money from unsuspecting individuals.

The scam first came to light when a Hyderabad resident, Veeraboina Sai Raj, received a phone call on November 28, 2024. The caller, who claimed to be a police officer from Mumbai’s Kurla Police Station, falsely informed Raj that he was under investigation. The victim was threatened with arrest unless he made a payment.

The gang’s modus operandi involved tricking individuals into believing they were in legal trouble, ultimately coercing them into paying significant amounts of money to avoid a fabricated arrest. The cybercrime police have successfully identified and detained the three men responsible for this elaborate fraud.
