In a meticulously coordinated joint operation, the Cyberabad Narcotic Police Station of the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) and the RNCC Khammam team dismantled a large inter-state ganja trafficking network. The police seized 847 kilograms of high-grade ganja valued at over Rs 4.2 crore and arrested two habitual offenders.
This major operation targeted a trafficking corridor running from Malkangiri in Odisha to Uttar Pradesh via Telangana and Karnataka. On August 4, intelligence indicated that a Uttar Pradesh-registered Mahindra Bolero pick-up truck carrying ganja from Odisha would pass through Thondapalli village in Shamshabad on the Bangalore National Highway.
By early afternoon, a joint surveillance team from RNCC and CNPS was deployed near the suspected route with all necessary equipment. At 5 PM, police intercepted the vehicle near Jama Masjid on Shamshabad Road, arresting Khilla Dhana (29) and Rajendar (26), both residents of Malkangiri district, Odisha.
Investigations revealed a tightly knit trafficking syndicate. The central coordinator, Ramesh Sukri, remains absconding but is linked to the arrested men. The network sources ganja from forest cultivators like Shibo Shiba and Basu, with bulk orders placed by Uttar Pradesh-based buyer Shaffiq Shafi. The syndicate employs layered payment methods and uses advance vehicles to evade detection.
Authorities continue to probe deeper into the supply chain to dismantle the entire network.
