HWANG Hee Jung, 43, was arrested early Friday morning by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) on multiple charges including possession of a stolen firearm, methamphetamine possession, violation of firearm identification card requirements, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
DPS issued a wanted notice for Hwang on September 19, and he was apprehended around 3 a.m. near the 99 Cent store in Garapan, according to DPS Public Information Officer Fred Sato.
Hwang appeared before Superior Court Judge Joseph N. Camacho for a bail hearing, where Chief Prosecutor Chester Hinds requested bail be maintained. Judge Camacho granted the request, setting bail at $100,000 cash. Hwang was remanded to the Department of Corrections and ordered to return for a preliminary hearing on October 1 and arraignment on the same day.
This case is separate from a prior criminal matter in which Hwang was charged with kidnapping and assault of a tour guide, Jijing “Jimmy” Borja, on August 25. Hwang had posted $25,000 bail in that case. Two other suspects, Peter Deleon Guerrero and Yichuan Bai, remain in custody.
On September 4, a multi-agency task force executed a search warrant at Hwang’s residence in San Roque. Investigators found a black Sig Sauer P229 firearm under a bed, confirmed stolen in 2022, along with a container holding 42 rounds of 9mm ammunition and a blue glass pipe containing a white substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Hwang now faces multiple felony charges and remains in custody awaiting upcoming court proceedings.
