RAPID CITY, S.D. — A 28-year-old Rapid City man, Hunter Beck, faces multiple felony charges following a hit-and-run crash Friday that led authorities to discover drugs and firearms.
Police said the incident occurred around 5 p.m. on the 1500 block of North LaCrosse Street. A witness reported seeing a red Dodge pickup truck drive over a fire hydrant before fleeing the scene.
Officers stopped Beck near the LaCrosse eastbound I-90 ramp, noting that he appeared under the influence and unable to safely operate a vehicle.
During a search of Beck’s vehicle, police found a handgun with its serial number scratched off, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a bag of marijuana. A subsequent search of a Rapid City hotel, conducted with a warrant, uncovered about a pound of meth, additional drug paraphernalia, and another firearm.
Beck was arrested and faces charges including driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, distribution of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, and a parole violation.
