LUVERNE, Minn. — Hugo Juarez Miravete, 31, of Luverne, is facing felony domestic assault by strangulation, misdemeanor domestic assault, and interference with a 911 call following a disturbing incident that took place on June 2.
Authorities were called after a woman reportedly approached a passerby and said she was in danger. A Rock County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the scene and found the visibly upset victim crying inside a car. Due to a language barrier, a translation service was used to facilitate communication.
The victim stated she had planned to end her relationship with Juarez Miravete that day. She claimed he became enraged, threatened to kill her, and warned her not to contact police, implying he would “take further action” if she did.
When the victim attempted to call for help using wifi on her phone, Juarez Miravete allegedly disconnected the router. Upon discovering that the incident was being recorded on the victim’s phone, he reportedly choked her with one hand while using the other to delete the video. He then allegedly stole her phone and money and threatened to send friends to kill her.
Deputies attempted to contact Juarez Miravete at his residence that day but received no response. He was arrested during a traffic stop the following day in Luverne.
Juarez Miravete is scheduled to appear in Rock County Fifth District Court on June 9.
