A 53-year-old man from Huddersfield, Augusto Guadagno, has been sentenced to eight months in prison after admitting to a series of car thefts across the town. At Leeds Crown Court on February 4th, Guadagno, from Forrest Avenue, pleaded guilty to ten offences, including stealing items from four vehicles and attempting to steal from three others.
Guadagno’s crime spree spanned from December to January, targeting cars in areas like Marsh, Gledholt, Mount, and Oakes. His crime spree was halted when he was arrested on January 23rd by officers from the Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), who were investigating reports of a man trying door handles in the local area. Guadagno was apprehended in Edgerton Cemetery with assistance from a member of the public.
PC Laura Bryan from the Huddersfield NPT praised the efforts of both officers and residents. She said, “Guadagno’s crime spree spanned several weeks, but with the help of the community and diligent police work, we were able to build a strong case against him.” She emphasized how crucial it is for residents to report crimes so authorities can take swift action. She also thanked the member of the public who helped during the arrest, even though the individual had left before police could gather their details.
This case serves as an example of effective teamwork between the police and the public in combating local crime.
