The City Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested four men for allegedly posing as Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials and looting gold and cash worth over Rs3 crore from a jewellery trader in Hubballi.

The incident occurred on November 19 near the Old Bus Stand, when five to six unidentified men approached the trader, claiming to be ED officers. They forcibly kidnapped him and took him towards Belagavi, where they allegedly stole 2.942 kg of gold ornaments and Rs2 lakh in cash before fleeing the scene.

Following the incident, a case was registered at the Suburban Police Station, and the CCB launched an investigation. Acting on leads, the police tracked four suspects to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh and arrested them. The accused have been identified as Ankush Kadam, Chandrashekhar, Jignesh Kumar, and Vilas.

Authorities have recovered 56.26 grams of gold, Rs60,000 in cash, and seven mobile phones from the arrested suspects. Efforts are ongoing to trace the remaining members of the gang who are still at large.

CCB officials stated that the investigation is continuing to uncover further details about the gang’s network and any previous criminal activities.
