LANSING, MI — Huazi Piao, a 61-year-old Chinese national, was sentenced on Tuesday, October 7, to serve between 40 months and 20 years in prison for operating commercial sex businesses at illicit massage parlors in Wayne County, Michigan.
Piao pleaded guilty last month to conducting a criminal enterprise, part of one of the largest human trafficking operations ever uncovered in the state, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said.
The charges stemmed from an investigation that began late last year and involved the execution of search warrants at four massage parlors in Wayne County in December. The operation targeted an alleged international human trafficking ring.
The investigation included cooperation among local, state, and federal agencies such as Homeland Security Investigations, Michigan State Police, and the St. Clair Shores Police Department.
Attorney General Nessel praised the prosecutors and law enforcement partners for their dedication, emphasizing her office’s commitment to fighting human trafficking and dismantling criminal enterprises that exploit survivors.
