In a swift operation, the Delhi Police arrested two individuals, including a domestic help, for allegedly stealing gold ornaments from a residence in Ashok Vihar, northwest Delhi, during Diwali celebrations.
The accused were identified as Noor Bano (36), also known as Rani, and Hasan Ali, a jeweller. According to officials, the complainant Nipun Narula reported the theft of multiple gold items — including coins, necklaces, chains, and bangles — from his home.
Police said the complainant’s mother had first noticed two bangles missing in October but assumed they were misplaced. However, when the family checked all valuables on October 25, after the domestic helps had left, they found more items missing.
Following the complaint, officers examined CCTV footage and began tracking the suspects. Bano, who had stopped reporting to work after October 31 and switched off her phone, was traced and arrested from Ghaziabad.
During interrogation, she confessed to the crime and revealed that she sold part of the stolen jewellery to Hasan Ali, who was later arrested for receiving and concealing stolen property.
Police recovered several gold ornaments from the accused and said that Bano committed the theft along with her absconding husband to “maintain a lavish lifestyle.” Efforts are ongoing to arrest her husband and recover the remaining valuables.
