Hossein Mohammadi Arrested Again by Iranian Authorities

Former Kurdish political prisoner detained in Bukan

BUKAN, IRAN — Hossein Mohammadi, a former Kurdish political prisoner from the village of Ali Kand near Bukan, West Azerbaijan Province, has been arrested once again by Iranian authorities, according to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

Mohammadi was detained on August 2, 2025, after being summoned to the local office of the Ministry of Intelligence in Bukan. His arrest follows a raid on his family’s home just days earlier, during which agents attempted to detain him but found he was not present. They confiscated his vehicle and left without making an arrest at the time.

Previously, on July 13, 2018, Mohammadi had been arrested by the same intelligence agency. He was held for nearly two months before being released on bail. In October 2018, the Criminal Court in Bukan (Branch 102) sentenced him to 30 months and one day in prison for allegedly “acting against national security” through supposed membership in the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI). He served his sentence in Bukan Prison and was later released.

His recent arrest has raised renewed concerns among Kurdish rights organizations, as no official charges or reasons for the summons have been disclosed.
