HONG KONG — March 2026

A senior officer with Hong Kong’s Auxiliary Medical Service has been suspended after being arrested and charged with indecent assault against a female colleague.

The officer, Alex Wong Ying-keung, serves as the Chief Staff Officer of the Auxiliary Medical Service (AMS). Authorities confirmed he was taken into custody earlier this month following allegations involving a senior female colleague.

Wong has been charged with one count of indecent assault, and the case is scheduled to be mentioned at Kowloon City Court on Wednesday.

According to police, the Hong Kong Police Force Kowloon City district crime squad has taken over the investigation.

While officials did not publicly name the officer in their statement, the Security Bureau of Hong Kong confirmed that the accused officer has been suspended from duty.

The bureau stated that because the case is now before the courts, it would not provide further comment. However, it emphasized that authorities attach great importance to the conduct of personnel and that unlawful acts will not be tolerated.

Wong joined the Fire Services Department of Hong Kong as an ambulance officer in 1997 and was later appointed Chief Staff Officer of the AMS on June 15, 2019, a full-time government role reporting to Ronald Lam Man-kin, the commissioner.

Following Wong’s suspension, Chan Wai-kuen has assumed the position in an acting capacity, a change that has already been reflected on the department’s official website.

Established in 1950, the Auxiliary Medical Service has around 5,000 members and provides support to agencies such as the Department of Health (Hong Kong), the Hospital Authority (Hong Kong), and the Fire Services Department during natural disasters, civil disturbances, and other emergencies.
