The Hebbagodi police have arrested two men who allegedly learned burglary techniques from YouTube and broke into a businessman’s house, escaping with Rs 1.14 crore in cash and 16 grams of gold.

The accused are:

HK Srinivasamurthy (39), a resident of Vigneshwara Nagar and native of Bengaluru South district, owner of an apparel shop in Chickpet.

BN Arun Kumar (39), a resident of Magadi Main Road and working as an electrician.

Police said that on November 8, the duo broke into the home of Sunil Kumar R (35), who lives in an apartment in Hulimangala, Bengaluru. Srinivasamurthy, a distant relative of Sunil, was aware of his business dealings. Facing financial difficulties due to losses in his own business, he conspired with Arun Kumar to commit the theft.

The accused had scouted the house for months, making two failed attempts before succeeding. To avoid detection, they did not carry mobile phones during the burglary. Srinivasamurthy wore a helmet and mask, climbed the apartment’s rear compound, forced open the flat’s front door, and stole cash and gold while Arun waited in a car.

Police analyzed footage from over 90 CCTV cameras, traced the getaway car, and arrested both men. During questioning, they admitted to learning burglary techniques from YouTube videos. Authorities recovered a total of Rs 1.16 crore, including Rs 1.14 crore cash, from the accused.
