Hisar police arrested Pawan Kumar, a travel agent from Bhodia Bishnoian village, on Friday for allegedly duping two youths of Rs 26 lakh by promising them Germany visas. The police managed to recover Rs70,000 from him, but his accomplice Ram remains absconding, with efforts underway to arrest him.
According to the police spokesperson Vikas Kumar, the victims, Vijender Kumar and Surender, both residents of Mahalsara village, were looking to travel to Germany. They came into contact with Pawan Kumar and Ram last year. The accused promised to arrange visas and flight tickets for them.
On June 25, the accused handed over fake flight tickets and fake Germany visas to the youths. However, two months later, the victims were detained and booked by the Adampur police station under various charges, including violations of the immigration act.
The case sheds light on how individuals posing as travel agents can exploit people’s dreams of overseas travel, making fraudulent promises to cheat unsuspecting victims.
