Nagpur police successfully cracked a theft case within three days, recovering Rs 92,000 stolen from a government employee’s car that was set aside for her son’s critical cardiac surgery.

The incident occurred on Sunday near Hingna T-Point, when an unknown thief smashed the window of a white Tata Nexon (MH 31 FU 4102) and stole a handbag containing Rs 1.25 lakh in cash, 13 grams of gold, bank cards, chequebooks, and ID cards, collectively valued at Rs 2.23 lakh.

The accused, Omprakash Mishra (30) of Indrimata Nagar, Hingna Road, attempted to evade detection by navigating narrow lanes and avoiding over 50 CCTV cameras. However, a single remote camera captured crucial footage, allowing Rana Pratap Nagar police, led by SI Pankaj Bondse and supervised by Zonal DCP Rushikesh Reddy, to track him down.

Acting on confidential inputs, police laid a trap and arrested Mishra, recovering Rs 92,000, the gold, and other valuables. The Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle (MH 40 AD 4624) used in the crime, valued at Rs 2.61 lakh, was also seized.

Mishra, originally from Mahuganj, Madhya Pradesh, has been booked. The swift recovery brought relief to the family, whose savings were crucial for the boy’s cardiac surgery.
