HILO, Hawaii (Island News) — Sommer Lopez, a 45-year-old woman from Hilo, has been arrested and is facing multiple charges after stealing a Ford F-150 truck from a Hawaiian Paradise Park home.
The truck was reported stolen on Thursday, May 15, and Lopez was arrested on Monday, May 19, at the Puna Kai Shopping Center. In addition to the theft charges, Lopez faces charges of driving under the influence of drugs, driving without a license, and possession of methamphetamine and marijuana.
Lopez is charged with first-degree theft (motor vehicle theft), first-degree unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant, driving without a license, third-degree promoting a dangerous drug (methamphetamine), and third-degree promoting a detrimental drug (marijuana).
If convicted, Lopez could face a maximum prison term of ten years, the maximum penalty for the most serious charge, a Class B felony. She is also subject to a mandatory prison sentence without the possibility of probation. Lopez appeared in Hilo District Court for her first hearing on May 21, and her bail was set at $93,000. She will return for a preliminary hearing on Friday, May 23.
