SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — March 2026

Two Bronx men are in custody following a high-speed chase linked to a series of catalytic converter thefts in Suffolk County.

Authorities say Henry Cruz and Luis Acosta stole several catalytic converters in Lindenhurst before evading police. Officers pursued their SUV onto the Southern State Parkway. Law enforcement deployed stop sticks, flattening the vehicle’s tires, prompting the suspects to flee on foot through nearby woods. Both were captured, while two other passengers remain at large.

During the pursuit, one officer suffered a broken bone and is expected to undergo emergency surgery.

Charges:

Both Cruz and Acosta: assault on an officer, auto stripping, criminal mischief, resisting arrest

Cruz: unlawful fleeing

Both men pleaded not guilty and are scheduled to return to court on Thursday, March 12.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office is also investigating whether the suspects are connected to additional catalytic converter thefts in the region.
