Heatherly Weakley, Sammie Davis Jr. Arrested in Drug Bust

Florence traffic stop uncovers meth, crack, and oxycodone

FLORENCE, MS – A routine traffic stop by a Florence Police K9 officer led to the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a large amount of illegal drugs on April 25 around 7 p.m. along Highway 49 South near Gunter Road.

The officer stopped a vehicle with no visible license plate and discovered that both driver Heatherly Weakley and passenger Sammie Davis Jr. were in possession of significant quantities of narcotics.

Authorities recovered:

223 grams of methamphetamine

2.3 grams of crack cocaine

50 dosage units of oxycodone

Heatherly Weakley faces several charges including:

Aggravated Trafficking of a Controlled Substance

Trafficking a Controlled Substance

Possession of a Controlled Substance

Driving with a Suspended License under Implied Consent

No Tag

Improper Equipment

Sammie Davis Jr. was also charged with:

Aggravated Trafficking of a Controlled Substance

Trafficking a Controlled Substance

Possession of a Controlled Substance

Both individuals were transported to the Rankin County Detention Center.

In a statement, Florence Police responded to community criticism of their highway patrol presence:

“While some people feel the need to contact City Hall and complain about officers sitting on Hwy 49, this is the reason we do it and this is the reason that we will continue to do it. Thank you to those that support us and continue to support us. Stay safe!”
