

FLORENCE, MS – A routine traffic stop by a Florence Police K9 officer led to the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a large amount of illegal drugs on April 25 around 7 p.m. along Highway 49 South near Gunter Road.
The officer stopped a vehicle with no visible license plate and discovered that both driver Heatherly Weakley and passenger Sammie Davis Jr. were in possession of significant quantities of narcotics.
Authorities recovered:
223 grams of methamphetamine
2.3 grams of crack cocaine
50 dosage units of oxycodone
Heatherly Weakley faces several charges including:
Aggravated Trafficking of a Controlled Substance
Trafficking a Controlled Substance
Possession of a Controlled Substance
Driving with a Suspended License under Implied Consent
No Tag
Improper Equipment
Sammie Davis Jr. was also charged with:
Aggravated Trafficking of a Controlled Substance
Trafficking a Controlled Substance
Possession of a Controlled Substance
Both individuals were transported to the Rankin County Detention Center.
In a statement, Florence Police responded to community criticism of their highway patrol presence:
