A Florida mother, Heather Opsincs, 37, has been charged with aggravated manslaughter following the death of her 5-year-old son, who ingested methamphetamine at a Riviera Beach hotel, police reported.
Incident Details
On March 23, officers responded to the Sands Hotel at 2401 Beach Court around 5:30 p.m. after receiving a call about a child not breathing.
A babysitter told police he saw the boy grab a bottle of apple juice from a table and drink it. The child immediately spat it out, saying it tasted weird. Moments later, he began shaking, shivering, and developing rashes.
The babysitter said he initially believed it was an allergic reaction and attempted CPR when the boy became stiff and unresponsive.
Opsincs’ Response
About an hour before the emergency call, Opsincs was seen washing a cooler outside her building when she was informed that her son had drank the apple juice and was vomiting a black substance.
Tragic Outcome
The child was rushed to a hospital, where he died shortly after ingestion.
Authorities later confirmed that the boy had consumed methamphetamine, leading to Opsincs’ arrest.
The case remains under investigation.
