by Ananya Mehta

On Monday, Hazaribag police announced they had successfully solved the high-profile murder case of Kumar Gaurav, the Deputy General Manager of the NTPC-owned Keredari coal project. Police revealed that four individuals had been arrested, including the shooter, Mintu Kumar Paswan. The authorities also recovered the pistol and motorcycle used in the crime. The arrested suspects were identified as Rahul Munda, Manoj Mali, and Ajay Yadav.

Deputy Inspector General Sanjeev Kumar and Superintendent of Police Arvind Kumar Singh shared that the murder was masterminded by a criminal gang once led by the now-deceased Aman Sahu. Sahu was recently killed in a police encounter. The murder was a part of an extortion scheme designed to instill fear and demand levy payments from companies operating in the Barkagaon and Keredari coal regions, including NTPC, BGR, and Ritwik Sainik.

Kumar Gaurav was tragically shot on the morning of March 8 near Phataha Chowk on the Hazaribag-Barkagaon road, under the jurisdiction of the Katkamdag police station. Authorities confirmed that the crime was part of a broader effort to enforce extortion payments from local businesses.
