Cybercrime police in Hathras have arrested Rohit Sharma in connection with an online fraud case that resulted in the loss of over Rs32 lakh.
The case surfaced after Naresh Rohilla, a resident of Amravati Enclave, filed a complaint on June 20. In April, Rohilla was lured by a stock market investment advertisement on Facebook and persuaded by a “relationship manager” to download a fake trading app. Over time, he invested money, which was then fraudulently siphoned off.
Using technical surveillance, the police raided a location in Hathras on August 12 and arrested Sharma, freezing approximately Rs4.5 lakh of the stolen amount. Sharma has been remanded to police custody for six days.
Authorities are following up on leads to identify and arrest other suspects involved in this elaborate cyber fraud operation.
