In a major corruption bust, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Haryana arrested Sonia Aggarwal, the Vice Chairperson of the Haryana Women Commission, and her driver Kulbir on charges of accepting a bribe. The duo was arrested on Saturday after the ACB caught Kulbir red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
According to the ACB spokesperson, the case began when a teacher from Jhajjar district filed a complaint stating that his wife, a sub-inspector in the Haryana Police, had filed an application against him with the Haryana Women Commission on November 25 due to a family dispute.
Following this, the complainant was called to meet Sonia Aggarwal on several occasions. During these meetings, Aggarwal’s driver, Kulbir, allegedly demanded a bribe to resolve the matter. On December 12, Aggarwal reportedly asked the complainant to pay Rs 1 lakh to Kulbir to settle the issue, and on December 14, Kulbir reiterated the demand, instructing the complainant to deliver the bribe at Hisar.
The ACB set up a trap, forming two teams to catch the accused in action. One team was dispatched to Kharkhoda (Sonipat) and the other to Hisar. The ACB team successfully arrested Kulbir near Jindal Park in Hisar while he was accepting the bribe. Following this, Sonia Aggarwal was arrested from Kharkhoda.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the law at the Rohtak police station, and further investigations are ongoing.
