On Sunday, March 2, 2025, Haryana Police arrested a woman named Rita after a distressing video showing her physically assaulting her elderly mother over a property dispute went viral. The three-minute clip showed Rita biting and slapping her mother repeatedly, while the elderly woman pleaded for mercy.
Rita, a resident of Hisar, has been booked under several charges including criminal intimidation, voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful confinement, and uttering obscene words, as per the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 24 of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the matter.
