WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A significant narcotics bust occurred in West Hartford on Monday, leading to the arrest of Benny Goodman, 30, a Hartford man. According to the West Hartford Police Department, officers seized a large quantity of illegal drugs from a stolen vehicle in the area of New Park Avenue and Flatbush Avenue.
Upon stopping the vehicle, police found over five pounds of fentanyl pills, 70.5 grams of loose fentanyl, and 272.15 grams of psilocybin mushrooms. In addition, authorities recovered over four pounds of marijuana, 48.9 grams of suspected Xanax, and over six grams of suspected Oxycodone. A total of $2,892 in cash was also seized.
Police confirmed that the vehicle was stolen from New York City and had a misuse registration attached to it. During their investigation, authorities learned that a child had been riding in the vehicle before police made contact with Goodman.
Goodman was arrested and charged with first-degree larceny, operation of a drug factory, larceny of a motor vehicle, and various narcotics-related offenses. Authorities are continuing to investigate the case.
This arrest marks a significant effort by West Hartford Police to curb drug trafficking in the area, especially with the alarming rise in fentanyl-related incidents across the country.
