The Infocity police in Gandhinagar arrested Harsh Moreshwar, a 20-year-old I-T engineering student from Kudasan, for a tragic hit-and-run that killed 29-year-old Shanta Sunar from Darjeeling on Sunday night.

The incident occurred around 11:30 pm near Vachhani Hospital on Sargasan Road, where Shanta, who lived in Gandhinagar’s Vrundavan Residency and worked at a beauty parlour, was walking. Eyewitnesses reported that a BMW car struck her at high speed, and the driver fled, leaving the vehicle behind. Shanta succumbed to her injuries on the spot.

Police investigation revealed that Harsh Moreshwar had taken his friend’s BMW for a late-night drive when the accident occurred. The vehicle was seized, and an FIR was registered at Infocity police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicle Act for causing death by negligent driving.

The victim’s cousin, Manaki Durbalama, stated she was informed about the accident by a friend and rushed to the scene to find Shanta lying dead. Authorities continue to investigate the case.
