The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Ludhiana Range has arrested three notorious drug smugglers and seized a substantial quantity of heroin, dealing a major blow to drug trafficking networks in Punjab.
The arrested accused have been identified as Harpreet Singh, a resident of the Jhabbal Road area in Amritsar district, Mani Kumar of Navan Kot Mohalla, and Raj Kumar alias Raju from Gurdaspur. Police recovered 603 grams of heroin from their possession.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar said the arrests were made during a special anti-drug campaign launched under the supervision of ANTF AIG Vatsala Gupta. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the police registered a case at the ANTF police station in Sohana and set up a checkpoint.
“The accused were intercepted at a naka while attempting to deliver a consignment of heroin weighing 603 grams,” DSP Kumar said.
He added that the Ludhiana Range ANTF has successfully disrupted multiple drug supply chains in recent weeks. In November alone, the task force recovered a total of 2.177 kilograms of heroin, including earlier seizures of 524 grams and 1.050 kilograms from other drug peddlers.
Police said further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and identify other members of the trafficking network.
