The Delhi Police have arrested a 54-year-old man, identified as Harpreet Singh Marwa, for allegedly stealing Rs20.33 lakh in cash from a businessman’s employee in Pitampura, officials said on Monday.
According to police, Parveen Bansal, who runs a wire supplies business, reported that his employee Amit Kumar had collected Rs20.73 lakh from several electrical shops across Delhi on Thursday. However, the bag containing the cash went missing from Kumar’s scooter in Pitampura.
Later, Bansal received a call from police stating that a person had deposited the missing bag at a police station. When he arrived, only documents were found inside—the cash was gone.
Investigators identified the man who turned in the bag as Harpreet Singh Marwa, a dhaba owner. A subsequent search of Marwa’s residence led to the recovery of Rs20.33 lakh in stolen cash.
“Marwa confessed to committing the theft to earn easy money and maintain a lavish lifestyle,” a police officer said. The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.
