HANNIBAL, Mo. – Caleb S. Nelson, a 20-year-old Hannibal resident, was arrested on Sunday after a string of thefts from unlocked vehicles in the area. Nelson has been charged with three counts of stealing and fraudulent use of a credit device.
The investigation began on January 24, when multiple Hannibal residents reported stolen items from their unlocked cars during the early morning hours. The following day, officers discovered one of the stolen credit devices had been used at a local business. They identified Nelson as the suspect and located him soon after.
During his arrest, authorities recovered several stolen items from Nelson’s residence, which were subsequently returned to their rightful owners.
Nelson remains in the Marion County Jail with a bond set at $15,000. Hannibal Police have stated that additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
