DARIEN, Conn. — Khalil Council, a 19-year-old man from Hamden, was arrested on May 14, 2025, in connection with the theft of a 2021 Audi Q5 stolen from Darien nearly a year ago. Authorities used DNA evidence collected from the stolen vehicle to link Council to the crime.
The theft occurred on May 27, 2024, when the Audi was left unlocked with the keys inside outside a residence on Hickory Lane in Darien. After the vehicle was stolen, it was later found in Hamden on June 5, 2024. A multi-agency investigation involving Darien, Hamden, and New Haven police led to the discovery of DNA evidence inside the car.
After obtaining a search warrant for Council’s DNA, authorities compared it to the samples found in the stolen Audi. The results confirmed a match between the DNA found in the vehicle and Council’s DNA, leading to his arrest.
Council turned himself in at Darien Police Headquarters on May 14, and was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, a Class E felony. His bond was initially set at $100,000, but following a hearing, it was reduced to $50,000, and he was released after posting bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 21, 2025.
Council has a history of criminal cases, with five other sealed cases listed on the Connecticut Judicial Branch website, including both criminal and motor vehicle-related cases. His next court date for these cases is scheduled for October 21, 2025.
The investigation continues as Council faces the legal repercussions of his alleged involvement in the theft of the Audi and his previous criminal history.
