PALMER, Tenn. (WTVC) – Authorities in Tennessee are investigating a deadly hit-and-run that claimed the life of Bobby Green. The 25-year-old driver, Haley Layman, faces charges in connection with the incident that occurred on Monday night when Green was struck while riding his bicycle.

Green’s daughter, Clara Green, expressed her heartbreak and anger, revealing that Layman had posted on social media following the accident. “I’ll pray for you. I don’t hate you. I just wish you would have made a different decision that night to not drink and drive,” Clara wrote in a message to Layman.

According to Clara Green, the impact of the crash was severe. She described how her father’s right leg was torn apart and his pinky finger was severed during the collision. Despite his injuries, Clara said a kind neighbor comforted Bobby in his final moments. “She went and got a flashlight and found him, and she went and got a blanket for him because he said he was cold and sat there and prayed with him,” Clara recalled.

Bobby Green died shortly after being transported in the ambulance. Clara expressed deep regret, saying, “All I can say is I just wish she would have done the right thing.”

A police report indicates that Layman admitted to drinking when the crash occurred. After the accident, she allegedly drove her car to a nearby county to have it repaired in an attempt to cover up the crime. Clara Green shared that a piece of the car’s headlight and the windshield wiper were found at the scene, further linking Layman to the accident.

In a shocking turn, Layman posted on social media about the crash hours before her arrest. One of her posts read, “Rest in peace Bobby Dan. You’re going to be missed so much,” leading Clara to question Layman’s actions.

Clara Green also reflected on her father’s struggles with homelessness and addiction but emphasized that, despite his challenges, Bobby Green didn’t deserve to die in such a way. “I know he wasn’t always the best when he was on that stuff, but when he wasn’t, he was good. He was good and he didn’t deserve that,” Clara said.

In honor of her father, Clara wants to encourage those facing addiction to seek help. “If you are on it, you can get help, so you don’t ever have to be in the situation where you’re homeless and you’re riding a bike to the store because you don’t have a vehicle,” Clara shared.

Haley Layman has been arrested by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, and authorities continue to investigate the fatal hit-and-run.
