Chennai: Tamil Nadu Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the brutal murder of Asuruddin Shah, a 34-year-old car driver from Panachamoodu, Thiruvananthapuram, who was beaten to death in Chennai on August 21.
Shah had been employed as a driver for Shanmugham, a Chennai resident. A financial dispute related to the driving arrangement escalated, leading to Shah’s fatal assault, according to the Manappakkam police.
The suspects, identified as Haja (30) and Shameer (27), both natives of Panachamoodu, allegedly confined Shah inside a room in Chennai and assaulted him. They also called Shah’s wife, Nadiya, demanding Rs 10,000 as ransom. She managed to transfer Rs 7,000 to Shanmugham’s account, after which Shah was admitted to a hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
Haja was arrested from Panachamoodu with the assistance of Vellarada police, while Shameer remains absconding. Authorities suspect additional individuals may be involved. Further investigation is underway.
