POTTSBORO, Texas (KXII) — A 27-year-old California man, Haibing Wu, was arrested in Pottsboro after authorities say he attempted to scam an 84-year-old victim by impersonating a federal agent.

According to the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Wu pretended to be with the FDIC and demanded that the elderly individual hand over $25,000 in person.

Fortunately, the victim’s daughter and son-in-law intervened, preventing the scam from succeeding and contacting law enforcement.

Deputies arrived promptly and arrested Wu, who was then booked into the Grayson County Jail on a charge of financial abuse of the elderly, a serious offense under Texas law.

Authorities remind the public to be cautious of unsolicited demands for money, especially those involving impersonation of government agencies.
