The Crime Detection Unit of Pelhar Police Station has successfully arrested a habitual motorcycle thief, Wasim Bashir Shaikh (30), originally from Haryana, marking a significant breakthrough in multiple two-wheeler thefts in the Vasai-Virar region.

The investigation started after a Hero HF Deluxe motorcycle belonging to Ajay Kumar Ramchandra Yadav (26), an electric motor repairman, was stolen outside Ayan Medical Store in Wakanpada, Nalasopara East on the night of May 4, 2025. A complaint was promptly registered at Pelhar Police Station under IPC Section 303(2).

Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Vankoti formed a special detection team to tackle the rising motorcycle thefts. Through detailed crime scene analysis and intelligence gathering, the team identified Shaikh as the prime suspect.

Acting on a tip-off, police apprehended Shaikh at a garage where he was found dismantling stolen motorcycles. Upon interrogation, Shaikh confessed to stealing five motorcycles in the Pelhar Police Station jurisdiction over the past two months. He admitted to dismantling two bikes for spare parts.

Police recovered three motorcycles, including the one stolen from Yadav, and several vehicle parts, with the total estimated value around Rs1,72,100. Shaikh is now charged in five separate theft cases under IPC Section 303(2).

Pelhar Police continue their efforts to prevent vehicle theft and urge citizens to remain vigilant.
