In a significant crackdown, Dispur Police busted a sex racket allegedly operating out of a guest house in Joyanagar, Guwahati, leading to the arrest of four individuals and the rescue of three women.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Mrinal Deka, confirmed that the arrests followed a tip-off about illegal activities taking place at a privately owned guest house.
Among the arrested are:
Bapti Hazarika – Owner of the guest house
Jonali Chowkham
Ritumoni Gohain Rabha
Riya Das
“These individuals had been operating the sex racket for nearly eight months,” DCP Deka said. “The services were provided either from the guest house itself or through hotel bookings across the city.”
Police conducted a swift raid, rescuing three women victims from the premises. Authorities believe this is part of a broader network and are currently expanding the investigation to identify more culprits and possible links to human trafficking.
The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and other applicable laws.
