The Cyber Crime teams of the Gurugram Police have successfully arrested six cyber criminals who defrauded people across India in a massive scam involving 1,923 complaints and a total loss of Rs 8.26 crore, authorities reported on Monday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Tej Parkash, Tohfiq, Deepak, Vikas, Vikaram, and Rajesh Sharma. The arrests were made by the Cyber Crime Police Station in Gurugram in relation to multiple fraud cases.
An official statement revealed that after examining the data from five mobile phones and four SIM cards recovered from the accused, it was confirmed that they were involved in defrauding victims of approximately Rs 8.26 crore. The fraud spanned across 1,923 complaints registered against them nationwide, with 78 cases filed in total. Seven cases were registered in Haryana, including four in Gurugram.
According to Priyanshu Diwan, ACP of Cyber Crime, the accused used various methods to scam victims, including fraud through Instagram, digital arrests, and fake work-from-home offers. Police also recovered the mobile phones and SIM cards used to commit these crimes.
Diwan added that further investigations are ongoing as the police examine the devices seized from the cyber criminals. Gurugram Police are working closely with other agencies to tackle cyber fraud.
The police also issued a public warning, urging people to remain cautious and avoid sharing personal details with strangers online. Cyber fraudsters often lure victims with promises of high returns from investments, cheap goods online, sextortion via video calls, fake customs officer threats, and other deceptive tactics.
