Gurugram Police have arrested Amit Chaudhary (49) of Nathupur, Gurugram, for impersonating a politically influential figure. Chaudhary allegedly called the Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Electricity Board, posing as the OSD (Officer on Special Duty) to the Chief Minister of Haryana in an attempt to influence the removal of an electricity pole.

The police were alerted about the incident on May 1, following a complaint lodged at the Sector-56 Police Station. Sandeep Kumar, spokesperson for Gurugram Police, stated that following a thorough investigation, the police team gathered key evidence and arrested Chaudhary in his native Nathupur.

The accused admitted to presenting himself as a politically powerful figure and using this image to get favors. He made the call to the SDO, threatening him to remove an electricity pole near one of his plots. To solidify his claims, Chaudhary had also created a fake profile on Truecaller, portraying himself as the CM’s OSD.

Police investigation revealed that Chaudhary had a criminal history, having previously been arrested in Panchkula for cheating a person of Rs57 lakh by falsely claiming he could arrange a petrol pump through his supposed political connections. Additionally, two separate cheque bounce cases are pending against him.

In a separate operation, Gurugram Police also arrested Jai Kumar (from Maharani Bagh, New Delhi) for illegal possession of ganja. Kumar, caught by the Crime Branch team near Gurjar Chowk, Sector-67-A, was found with over 3 kg of ganja. He revealed during interrogation that he had procured the drugs from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, and was selling it in small packets in Gurugram. A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act at Sector-65 Police Station.

Both arrests highlight the Gurugram Police’s ongoing crackdown on criminal activities, with further investigations into both cases currently underway.
