Gurugram Police Arrest 16 Cybercriminals in Rs66.62 Crore Fraud Case

Gang duped victims nationwide via fake FedEx and sextortion scams

The Cyber Crime Police of Gurugram have arrested 16 cybercriminals responsible for defrauding victims across India through various scams, including fake FedEx officials and sextortion. The accused stand charged in approximately 15,265 complaints totaling over Rs66.62 crore, said ACP Priyanshu Diwan.

The accused — Anurag, Ashish Kumar, Chirag, Suraj Tiwari, Amit Lavania, Anupam Banarjee, Nitesh, Roshni, Karan Singh, Ruman Ali, Raman, Chandan, Isha Yadav, Saurabh, Sonu, and Prateek — were apprehended by different teams of the Gurugram Cyber Crime Police.

Data retrieved from 17 mobile phones and 7 SIM cards analyzed by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) linked the suspects to frauds amounting to Rs66.62 crore, with 488 cases filed across India. Out of these, 36 cases were registered in Haryana, including 10 in Gurugram.

The gang posed as FedEx officials and used sextortion tactics to extort money. They also duped people through fraudulent investment schemes.

The police are continuing their investigation to identify further accomplices and recover defrauded amounts.
