SURREY, BC — A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection to the stabbing death of a woman in Surrey last December.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced on Thursday that Gurtaj Singh has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder following the incident at a home in the 14700-block 108A Avenue in Surrey’s Guildford neighbourhood on December 14, 2024.
Police responded to the scene where they discovered the victim’s fatal injuries, and another person was found with serious stab wounds. The second victim was rushed to the hospital, but their condition remains unclear.
Sgt. Freda Fong, an IHIT spokeswoman, confirmed that the stabbing was linked to a personal dispute, describing it as an isolated incident. However, she added that the investigation is ongoing and that authorities believe additional individuals were involved. “We will continue in our pursuit to bring all those responsible to justice for the victims and their families,” Fong stated.
Singh remains in custody pending his next court appearance on May 12, 2025. Investigators are working to identify all those involved in the violent attack.
