In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Amritsar rural police have seized a massive 30 kg of heroin from a cross-border drug peddler. The accused, Gursimranjit Singh, also known as Simran, hails from Basarke Gillan village and was apprehended under the Gharinda police station jurisdiction.

The arrest came after careful intelligence gathering. The authorities had been tracking Singh’s movements and managed to arrest him based on key leads. Investigations have since identified three other individuals associated with a trans-border cartel, with efforts underway to capture them.

Sources indicate that the drug operation was managed by Raju Dhattal, a drug peddler based in the USA but originally from the Gharinda area. Though Singh and his associates lacked a prior criminal record, the police are now verifying their backgrounds.

According to Amritsar rural police SSP Charanjit Singh Sohal, Gursimranjit Singh had been involved in large-scale narcotics trafficking for months, with four drug consignments of approximately 75 kg each retrieved in the last three months. The heroin packets were wrapped in yellow adhesive tape and equipped with hooks, indicating that they were likely smuggled into India from Pakistan using drones.

The police operation began when Gharinda SHO Amandeep Singh’s team stopped a vehicle for routine checks. Upon searching the car, they discovered four packets of heroin, weighing 7.5 kg each, in a black bag.

The suspect is currently being interrogated, and authorities anticipate further arrests in connection with the drug smuggling network. The police plan to engage the Border Security Force (BSF) to track the origin points of the smuggled drugs.
