The Gharinda police arrested two men, Gursewak Singh from Rai village (Lopoke police station area) and Kuljit Singh from Harad Khurd village (Ramdas police station area), and seized 1 kilogram of heroin from their possession.
The suspects were travelling on a motorcycle without a registration number, which was impounded by the police. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Attari, Lakhwinder Singh Kaler, revealed that the duo had direct links with Pakistan-based drug smugglers and were involved in cross-border trafficking.
Following their interception and search, the contraband was seized, and a case was registered. The accused were produced in court and sent to police remand for further investigation. Authorities are also identifying and planning to freeze their properties acquired through illegal drug trade proceeds.
In a separate operation, the Sadar police arrested three persons, including a couple—Harpreet Singh alias Harpartap Singh, his wife Priyanka, and Shilpa—all residents of Sandhu Colony on Batala Road.
The police confiscated 260 grams of heroin and Rs5,290 in cash suspected to be drug money. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at the Sadar police station. The trio was produced in court and sent to police custody for further investigations.
