Gurminder Singh Held in Rs13 Lakh HDFC Bank Robbery

Prime accused caught with cash, gun; 2 aides absconding

In a significant development, Kapurthala district police have arrested Gurminder Singh, the prime suspect in the HDFC Bank robbery that took place in Rawalpindi on May 30. Acting swiftly on technical surveillance and field intelligence, the police recovered Rs13.10 lakh in stolen cash and a country-made pistol used in the heist.

The arrest was made on June 7 following an intensive, multi-district investigation led by a special police team under the supervision of SSP Gaurav Toora. Deputy Inspector General Naveen Singla confirmed the arrest and praised the coordinated police effort.

According to officials, Gurminder Singh, a resident of Kahlwan village in Jalandhar district, confessed to his role in the crime during interrogation and provided crucial leads for recovering the cash. Police have also identified two of his accomplices, who are currently on the run.

The daring robbery took place around 3 PM on May 30, when three masked individuals entered the HDFC Bank branch and escaped with the cash using a white Verna with fake number plates. A case was filed under FIR No. 45 (dated 30.05.2025) at Rawalpindi Police Station under Section 309(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Multiple teams, including the CIA, Phagwara Police, and Kapurthala Detective Wing, were deployed. DIG Singla lauded the operation, crediting surveillance and inter-agency coordination for the breakthrough.

SSP Toora assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and reiterated the police department’s commitment to public safety.
