In a major development, Faridkot district police have arrested five more individuals in connection with the murder of Yadwinder Singh, who was shot dead on July 22 in what police now confirm was a case of mistaken identity.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ashwani Kapoor of the Faridkot range announced on Wednesday that three individuals—Jaswant Singh alias Mangal, Harmanpreet Singh alias Harman, and Bunty—were arrested on July 28 in Ferozepur for supplying weapons, funds, and shelter to the shooters.

The next day, two alleged shooters, Gurmeet Singh alias Gumber Rajput and Manpreet Singh alias Gattari, were apprehended from Rajpura in Patiala district. Police recovered two .30 bore pistols with 11 live cartridges and a Glock pistol with 8 rounds from the duo.

Another shooter, Chinki, and Suraj Kumar of Sirsa—who provided shelter to the attackers—are already in custody. Investigations reveal that the weapons and funds used in the murder were supplied by Piyush Pehalwan alias Rajan, operating from Malaysia, and his father Jaswant Singh.

DIG Kapoor revealed that the shooters were targeting Jiwanjot Singh Chahal alias Jugnu, an accused in the Sidhu Moose Wala murder case, but they mistakenly gunned down Yadwinder Singh, who was working as Chahal’s driver.

Yadwinder was shot while driving an SUV through Brahmanwala village in Faridkot, when three bike-borne assailants opened fire.

The alleged mastermind behind the hit is fugitive gangster Lucky Patial, who ordered the hit from abroad.
