PEARL RIVER COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) – A 36-year-old man, identified as Guohua Huang, was arrested in a coordinated effort between the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI. Huang is accused of being involved in a fraudulent scheme that targeted a resident in South Mississippi.
The investigation began on February 18 after reports surfaced about a community member purchasing large quantities of gold bars under suspicious circumstances. Authorities uncovered that the victim had been contacted by a person pretending to be a bank representative. This impersonator claimed that the victim’s bank account had been compromised.
The suspect allegedly convinced the victim to make substantial financial transactions, all under the guise of protecting their assets. After further investigation, Huang was identified as the primary suspect. In an unusual move, he even visited the victim’s home during the course of the fraud.
Huang, a Chinese national, has been charged with attempting to commit false pretense and conspiracy to commit a crime. He may face additional federal charges and is also subject to deportation proceedings.
