In a major crackdown on Monday, Guntur police busted two criminal rackets—one involving two-wheeler theft and another dealing with illegal ganja trade—leading to the arrest of several individuals.
According to Guntur SP Satish Kumar, the police made significant progress in tackling these crimes. In the first case, the police arrested Velivolu Venkateswarlu (34), a B.Tech graduate from Ratnagiri Colony, and Moram Reddy Sita Reddy (38), a farmer from Lankelakurapadu in Palnadu district. They recovered 12 stolen motorcycles worth approximately Rs6 lakh. Venkateswarlu, who had previously worked as a government outsourcing employee, resorted to vehicle theft after facing personal difficulties. He reportedly used stolen documents from parked motorcycles to check if the vehicle could be easily resold and then listed them for sale on OLX. His accomplice, Sita Reddy, helped sell the stolen bikes for a commission.
In another case, the police arrested Md Abdul Rasheed (25) of Tenali and Challa Gopi (27) of Dasaripalem, both from Guntur district, at Narakoduru Centre. The police recovered 10 motorcycles worth Rs5 lakh from their possession.
In a separate raid, police also arrested two individuals involved in a ganja smuggling operation. The police seized 24 kg of ganja worth Rs2.4 lakh. The investigation is still ongoing, and further action is expected as the authorities continue to dismantle these criminal activities.
