In a special operation targeting two-wheeler thefts, the Guntur police recovered 34 stolen motorcycles valued at Rs 25 lakh and arrested nine suspects, including two minors. The thefts occurred across multiple police station limits in the district.
According to SP Sateesh Kumar, the crackdown followed numerous complaints from vehicle owners in areas like Patabhipuram, Old Guntur, Nagarampalem, and Tadikonda, which reported a sharp rise in motorcycle thefts in recent months. Using CCTV footage, technical inputs, and intelligence on habitual offenders, police detained suspects and conducted intense interrogations that led to identifying the accused and recovering the stolen vehicles.
Police teams from East, West, Nallapadu, Tadikonda subdivisions, and the Crime Division were involved in tracing and seizing the motorcycles.
The arrested individuals include Akkisetti Akash (19), Uppu Rakesh (19), Madugula Ravi Teja (22), Shaik Asheeru (28), Kona Venkata Gopi (27), Tokala Rajesh (19), Boyapati Jayasai (21), and two minors.
The police also identified buyers of stolen motorcycles, such as Mopidevi Revanth (20), Vishumolakala Koteshwar Rao, Manikanth, Seelam Yesu, Shaik Hussain, Kolla Yesubabu (26), Kottamassu Sai (35), and another minor.
SP Kumar highlighted that the accused, often under substance influence, targeted vehicles parked in vulnerable locations such as outside homes, markets, hospitals, and religious places. Stolen vehicles were not only used for roaming but occasionally for petty crimes.
He urged vehicle owners to be vigilant by installing CCTV cameras, avoiding open-area parking, and using security measures like handle locks, wheel locks, and GPS trackers to prevent thefts.
