Gujarat Police successfully thwarted an inter-state drug smuggling attempt on Saturday by arresting a suspected drug peddler, Rakesh Bishnoi, and seizing 375 grams of mephedrone (MD) valued at Rs 37.50 lakh. The arrest was made during a vehicle check at a checkpoint near the Gujarat-Rajasthan border in Banaskantha district, near Tharad town.
Bishnoi, a resident of Rajasthan, was traveling in a passenger van heading towards Gujarat when he was stopped for a security check. During the search, police recovered the mephedrone from his possession. Upon questioning, Bishnoi revealed that he was on his way to deliver the drugs to Mohammad Abdul Mokha in Bhuj, located in Kutch district.
Based on the information provided by Bishnoi, the police quickly apprehended Mokha. Authorities have also identified the main drug supplier and are actively working to track him down and make further arrests, as confirmed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) SM Varotariya.
The successful bust marks another significant step in Gujarat Police’s ongoing efforts to curb the trafficking of illicit substances across the state’s borders.
