A 31-year-old man remains in critical condition following an officer-involved shooting Thursday morning in a Yuba City neighborhood.

According to the Yuba City Police Department, the incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. in the 1800 block of Rapid Falls Drive.

Officers were initially dispatched to the area of Wild River Drive after reports of a man walking nude through the neighborhood. While searching nearby streets, officers located the individual a short distance away on Rapid Falls Drive. Police later identified him as Guillermo Figueroa, 31.

Authorities say that before officers made contact, Figueroa allegedly assaulted a family member at a nearby residence and then fled. He is also accused of attempting to force entry into another home by ramming the front door, shattering a window in the process.

When officers approached him, police said Figueroa ran, leading to a chase. During the encounter, he allegedly resisted arrest. Investigators said multiple Taser deployments and baton strikes were ineffective.

Police reported that Figueroa then picked up a shovel and attempted to strike officers. Describing the situation as an immediate threat, authorities said one officer fired two shots, striking Figueroa in the torso.

Officers provided medical aid until emergency crews arrived. Figueroa was transported to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The family member who was allegedly assaulted was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The two officers involved were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The shooting remains under investigation. Both officers have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy pending the outcome of the investigation.
