Tragedy struck a day before a wedding in Rampur, as 26-year-old Nihal, the groom-to-be, was murdered on June 15. The police have arrested Saddam, a man from Nihal’s village of Dhanpura, suspected of being involved in the crime.
According to Circle Officer Jitendra Singh, Saddam is suspected of having an affair with the would-be bride. After the murder, police began tracing the victim’s mobile phone. On Monday morning, they took Saddam into custody for questioning and evidence recovery.
During the operation to retrieve Nihal’s phone, Saddam attempted to escape by snatching a constable’s pistol. In response, the Station House Officer (SHO) fired in self-defense, injuring Saddam. He was immediately hospitalized, and a case has been registered against him.
The murder, just a day before Nihal’s wedding on June 16, has shocked the local community. Police are still probing the motive and whether a love affair played a role in the crime.
