MACON, GA — Two Macon men, Gregory Staten Jr. and Jamaine Sims, have been arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) following an officer-involved shooting during a police chase in Bibb County.
The incident began on the night of October 12, 2024, when a Georgia State Patrol (GSP) trooper attempted to stop a vehicle around 10:15 p.m. The driver refused to pull over, leading to a high-speed chase through Macon. During the pursuit, passengers inside the vehicle opened fire on the GSP troopers multiple times. Thankfully, none of the troopers were injured in the exchange, though the suspects managed to escape.
The vehicle was later found abandoned, and no individuals were located at the scene. Following an extensive investigation, the GBI identified 28-year-old Jamaine Antwan Sims and 34-year-old Gregory Bernard Staten, both of Macon, as the suspects involved in the shooting and car chase.
Sims was arrested on October 28, 2024, while Staten was taken into custody on January 28, 2025. Both men have been charged with aggravated assault on a public safety officer and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. They are currently being held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
The GBI has stated that the investigation is still ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as more information becomes available.
