Officials in Massachusetts have arrested Gregory Groom, the ex-boyfriend of 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro, after he confessed to her murder. Monteiro, who was 11 weeks pregnant, had been missing since August 7.
Kylee, a recent high school graduate, was last seen near Country Street in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. Her family and police expressed growing concern after she disappeared. On August 8, Groom reported Kylee missing, stating they had an argument the day before and that she left his residence.
Further investigation revealed a history of domestic issues between the two, including a physical altercation the night before she disappeared. Kylee’s sister, Faith Monteiro, said Kylee had texted her alleging Groom had physically assaulted her.
After police searched Groom’s 25-acre property with no initial findings, he later returned for a second interview. During this meeting, he allegedly confessed to killing Kylee on August 6. Groom admitted to stabbing her twice in the neck and once in the chest during an argument. He then buried her body in a wooded area on his property.
Authorities recovered Kylee’s body approximately five feet beneath a large pile of brush. The medical examiner is conducting an autopsy and identification process.
Groom faces multiple charges, including murder, assault and battery on a pregnant victim, and aggravated intimidation of a witness. He was arraigned on August 20 and is being held without bail. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for September 10.
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn stated that it is too early to determine the motive and urged the family to be patient with the ongoing investigation.
